Advice to the Beer Wenches

To all the wait staff and bartenders at a brew pubs, you need to have some basic knowledge about the product you are serving. I’m so tired of brew pubs that spend countless hours constructing great beer recipes, but then don’t spend 5 minutes training their beer wenches on their custom brews.

There are two types of brew pub customers: the newbie and the fan.

A newbie will ask “What is a stout?”.
A fan will ask “What style of stout is your ABC Stout?”.

So to the beer wench at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, when I asked the STYLE of the Port Truck Stout, saying “A stout is like a Guinness.”, is the wrong reply. Some possible correct replies would include: dry, Irish, Imperial, Oatmeal, Milk, American or I don’t know - let me find out for you.
