The 10 Year Warranty
In September 2001, I bought a 10 year 100,000 mile super-duper warranty for my TDI Golf. For last 4 years, I never even pulled out the paper work. The car hasn’t needed any repairs. This week I had $1300 worth work done, so I finally got a chance to use the benefits.
Once I got to the dealer I learned that I have no benefits.
The auto benefits company went out of business. The company that took over the company that went out of business, is now out of money. With interest, I paid $1000 for an empty promise.
Don’t buy an extended warranty for your car. Especially if it is being sold by VW.

This is a load of BS! I never would have considered this as an issue. I usually buy extended warranties with my new cars but I might reconsider next time.
I’m really sorry to hear you got screwed. What’s worse is it sounds like VW didn’t really do much for you, it makes them look as bad as anyone else in this situation and I would think that they would be interested in making you a happy customer!
I’m very disappointed to hear this.

Hmmmm. Did you buy it through the VW dealership? You might have some remedy through that.
Consult with a consumer fraud lawyer - I’m sure California is lousy with them.

I bought the plan from Classic VW in Escondido, CA. They have been the only place that I’ve had my car serviced since purchase.
When I later pressed the service manager on how the timing belt replacement would have been covered, he informed me that since my belt was about to break it wasn’t a repair. It was maintanence. Maintenence wasn’t covered under the plan. But the plan is dead, so it’s an academic discussion.
I’m not going to pursue this any further, other than passing on my experience to others. I’m happy with the service of Classic VW and I still believe that the diesel Golf is the best car on the market, especially with oil at $60 a barrel.
