Web Empire 2006

I’m not satisfied with the state of my web empire. Now I’m wondering what my next step should be. Let me run down my sites and their issues.

CriticalMAS: It’s already March and haven’t created a single photo gallery this year. Shame on me. This blog seems to lack the cocky focus of my previous blog. However, I am satisfied with the layout and themes. I’m very unhappy with Blogger and am eager to test out SubText 1.0 which was released this week.

INeedCoffee: INeedCoffee has never been more popular. Content and page views are pouring in faster than ever. I desperately need an intern for this site. Without an intern, I doubt I’ll ever be able to update any of the code on this site which is now three years old.

RanchoSanPasqual: I’m 100% satisfied with the site I created for my community. What I’m not satisfied with is the lack of participation by the realtors in our area. We’ll save that rant for a later date.

DeepFitness: The success of this site depends upon establishing relationships with honest affiliates and gaining an audience that isn’t tied to an RSS reader. At this time we have neither…and I’m losing patience.

DigitalColony: My technical site has become so very dated. It needs to trashed and rebuilt from the ground up. The publisher I wrote three years ago still meets the needs for INeedCoffee, but no longer does for Digital Colony. A new publisher should be able to display source code in a friendly format (example).

New Project #1 - Top secret project #1 is a second coffee site that could dwarf INeedCoffee’s popularity in one year. It would be commercial and take a lot of code and some marketing to be successful.

New Project #2 - Top secret project #2 is still be researched. It involves real estate. It will take some code and a lot of marketing to be commercially successful.

Give me your feedback. What should my next step be? If you were my web coach, what would you say to me?

Go with project #1, the coffee thang. If it’s about coffee it’ll do well. Of course, I’m biased that way. Even better, make a site marketing coffee to the chinese…Starbucks is making progress pushing into that enormous market. Why not MAS?

Don’t give up on DF. Our revenues have doubled since the redesign, and I’m the one doing most of the content updates and I’m happy right now. What we need is marketing! Anybody have any great ideas?

I like project #1 as well. My only question is can it be rolled into ineedcoffee or does it need to be a seperate entity.

Other than that, I am happy to see you blogging again. I would like to see more out of digital colony but it looks like you already know that. DeepFitness is good, I go there from time to time and I like the drudgereport feel of it.

Keep the good work up, and I keep stopping by.
