Tecolote Canyon Hike

This hike was really two different hikes. For the first mile or so, you are hiking in the wide open boring canyon underneath the hum of the power lines. Then trails appear and it gets green. Unlike most hikes I’ve been on which have defined trails, this one has many trails and no clear markers. The Afoot & Afield in San Diego book does flag this hike as needing an additional map and a compass. Unfortunately, I didn’t take that advice and found my self lost for moments. The challenging part of the hike had quite a bit of litter as well.

I won’t be back on this hike. However, I do endorse the first mile (south part) to all trail runners that don’t mind the hum of power lines.
