On Monday we decided to give our cat Rainman back to his original owner. We adopted Rainman in 2001 when he was 9 nine years old. His first nine years were spent as an outdoor cat in Jamul, CA.

For three weeks we dealt with health problems, vet trips and eventually behavior problems. The health problems ended, but the behavioral problems persisted. I’m not going into the details but we made the tough decision he needed to return to being an outdoor cat.

Rainman was the best pet I ever took care of. Last year I taught him how to handshake. Pretty cool for a cat of 14 years. Since we are good friends with the new owner, we plan to visit Rainman.
