The Art of Seduction

Having already read and thoroughly enjoyed Robert Greene’s The 48 Laws of Power and The 33 Strategies of War, I decided to read his other book The Art of Seduction. As much as I loved The 48 Laws of Power, the Art of Seduction was even better.

Robert Greene books are the perfect mix of history and psychology. What I enjoy is connecting the historical lessons with events of my day to day life. Last July I discussed Law 2: Never Put Too Much Trust In Friends.

Stepping into the writings of Robert Greene will solicit one of two reactions. Half the people are repulsed by the instructive details of manipulation described inside the Laws or Strategies. People that prefer to see the world through rose-colored glasses will find his books disturbing. The other half will love his writings. They will see the Laws and Strategies as a toolkit for defending themselves in power struggles or as a blueprint for grabbing power themselves.

Whereas The 48 Laws of Power and The 33 Strategies of War deal with conflict and winning, The Art of Seduction is all about techniques used to win someone over. That winning can be political or romantic. If 450 pages is too much of a commitment, there is a scaled back version of this book called Concise Art of Seduction.
