Coffee Fest Seattle
Guess who scored a free pass to Coffee Fest this weekend? Of course it was me. I’ve only been in a town a few months and I had more than few people offer me a pass to this weekend’s big event.

I sat in on the Basic Barista Techniques class. There I learned an additional tamping technique. By placing your arm at a 90 degree angle, the tamp is more even. The speaker called it the Statue of Liberty. (photo here) When I got home I tested it out and it worked great.
How much espresso did I consume in 60 minutes? Enough to kill a mere caffeine mortal. I got shots from Cafe D’Arte, Portland Roasting, Josuma and Silver Cup. Then I had a cup of Brazil from 49th Parallel’s Clover. And I sampled some South African coffee and some funky tea. Even I knew I had to leave before my heart exploded. Good times.
The next Coffee Fest in Seattle will be on September 12-14, 2008. Come join me.

Reading this, it occurs to me to ask how you waited so long to move to Seattle in the first place. Clearly it’s the caffeine-friendliest place on the planet!

The Coffee festival sounds really fun. I am planning a trip to the western half of the states next summer. Maybe next year we could go together. Keep yourself hunky though, or I’ll change my mind!:)

I keep meaning to comment here - how did you tamp before? That’s how I tamp by instinct, must have a nice firm hockey puck in there…mmmm.
Yes, besides the temperature outside, Seattle strikes me as your perfect home. Are you happy there?

The Statue of Liberty tamp has the elbow higher than a natural tamp. Since this post, I no longer feel that high elbow tamp is needed. I have no perfect home.
