Best Books for 2007

It appears I read 32 books this year. Most have been since going TV-free in August. Everyone loves a top 10 list. Here is mine. Note that many of these books were not written in 2007. That is just the year I got around to reading them.
1 - Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert. I [...]

Defending the 4-Hour Workweek

Back in June I read one the most talked about business books of the year. I didn’t blog about it at the time. The book spoke to me. I wanted it to sink in. And I wanted some time to pass. Before commenting on the book, I reread it in its entirety this weekend.

The 4-Hour [...]

Little Thoughts

It seems most of the books I read these days at one point were mentioned in the Wall Street Journal. Yes I prefer non-fiction over fiction. And if the book has a finance or psychology angle, even better. With that said, I decided to read a fiction book before the year ended.

The Seattle Version of the Prohibido Sign

If you’ve driven around Southern California, then you’ve seen the Prohibido sign. It basically is warning drivers to avoid mowing down future taxpayers as they decide which side of the freeway is el Norte.

Seattle has it’s own version of the sign. Notice the flying laptop? Maybe Washington drivers are more likely to slow down [...]

Back From Canada Eh!

Vancouver was an amazing city. Think San Diego with frostbite. Actually it’s downtown is further built out than San Diego. Despite the rain and cold temperatures, I was able to get some good photos. And I now have a new favorite coffee house: Caffe Artigiano. Great food, Clover and my new favorite drink [...]

My Last Piece of Fitness or Nutritional Advice

Over the years quite a few people have asked me for fitness or nutritional information. As much as I try to be helpful, I’ve come to the conclusion that it has all been a waste of time. Why? In the last few years I’ve noticed, all my advice appears not to be working. With one [...]

Diamond Knot and Budweiser Urinal

Diamond Knot Brewery in Mukilteo, Washington found a good use for an empty Anheuser-Busch keg. They converted it into a urinal. Seems fitting.

Taking off to the Great White North

Next week I will take my first trip ever to Canada. I will visit Vancouver and Whistler during this trip. I decided it wasn’t cold enough in Seattle and that I needed to go further north.

Zeitgeist and Espresso Redemption

During my college years, the premier coffee roaster in Central Ohio was Staufs. To my knowledge it still is the best roaster in the area. In addition to roasting for its own cafe and retail customers, it also roasted for other coffee houses. Despite the high quality of coffee they served at their home location, [...]

Super Crunchers - A Better Freakonomics Book

After reviewing Freakonomics last October, Derek tipped me to another book in that genre that I might enjoy.

Super Crunchers: Why Thinking-by-Numbers Is the New Way to Be Smart by Ian Ayres was a better book than Freakonomics in my opinion. Super Crunchers was less about the answer derived from data analysis, it was more [...]
