The End of CriticalMAS?

Decision time. This is the month that I begin the move off Blogger and over to WordPress. This means eight years of links and images will need to corrected or redirected. This is no minor project.

Why go through the hassle? Two reasons.

Reason one is I’m researching the possibility of transitioning INeedCoffee to an open multi-author publisher. I’d rather practice and learn over here on CriticalMAS with 100 daily page views instead of on INeedCoffee with 4,000 daily page views. And there is no guarantee that WordPress will be right for INeedCoffee. I’d rather discover that on this site.

Reason two is I plan to keep blogging and I hate Blogger.

My question to you is now that I’m moving, should I change my domain from CriticalMAS.com over to MichaelAllenSmith.com? My original blog Chicken Soup for the Rectum (2000-2004) was critical, whereas MAS o Menos (2005-present) isn’t. As Van Halen once sang: Big Bad Billy is Sweet William Now.

If I’m going to change domains, now would be the ideal time.

My vote is you keep CriticalMAS.

* Easier to remember — “Critical Mass” with a single ’s’. Because there are several alternative spellings of Allen, it’s less intuitive to remember.
* CriticalMAS is a cool name. It doesn’t necessarily imply that you’re ultra-critical. ‘Critical Mass’ is a concept that applies to politics, public opinion, and of course chemistry and physics. A cool concept, it is — very action-oriented.
* Because I’m a sentimental fool. Long live CriticalMAS!!!

I like the CriticalMAS a bit better. It’s catchy and it’s shorter…and shorter is almost always better with URL’s.

Joe

You’ll always be criticalMAS to me.

I’m thinking about doing the name domain thing myself. But I agree with Joe - I can’t imagine you as anything but CriticalMAS.

Sheri

When you move, please leave a link so I can keep reading!

MAS

If I do change the domain name, I’ll map it so CriticalMAS.com loads MichaelAllenSmith.com. No links will break. That is my goal.

Alex’s 2nd bullet point has me rethinking my idea. Maybe I should keep it CriticalMAS.
