Looking Presidential 2000

Prior to the 2000 election I created a web page where I tried to match each Presidential candidate with an actor playing the role of President. The exercise was to determine who looked the most Presidential.

Which of the candidates in the 2000 Presidential election look Presidential? One measure for looking the part is trying to imagine an actor portraying them in the movies. In this exercise, I tried to match each of the 5 candidates with an actor that played the role of President of the United States.

Democrat Al Gore

Al Gore most closely resembles President Thomas J. Whitmore in Independence Day played by Bill Pullman. Both have that wooden face with the slicked hair.

Republican George W. Bush

Finding the movie actor that best matches George Bush was the most difficult. Michael Douglas has a history of playing wealthy businessmen, which gives him a slight edge. In the movie The American President, Michael Douglas as President Andrew Shepherd has a boyish look that GW gets sometimes.

Libertarian Harry Browne

Jack Lemmon played President Russell P. Kramer in My Fellow Americans. His white hair and smile most reminds me of Libertarian Harry Browne.

Reform Pat Buchanan

In the movie My Fellow Americans, Dan Ackroyd plays President William Haney. In the picture below, Dan looks very much like Pat Buchanan.

Green Ralph Nader

Canadian Bacon has Alan Alda playing an unnamed President of the United States. I think Ralph Nader most resembles actor Alan Alda.
