Did Elvis Predict Hurricane Katrina?
Last night I was listening to Elvis singing Promised Land, when these lyrics jumped out at me.
Somebody help me get out of Louisiana
Just to help me get to Houston town
There are people there who care a little about me
And they wont let the poor boy down
Did The King know about Katrina back in 1975? Did he know the hurricane evacuees would be relocated to Houston? And if you listen to the last line closely, it almost sounds like he saying drown instead down.

Nostradamus would have been proud.

Not nearly as prophetic, but:
This song reminds me of 9/11:
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage.
No angel born in hell
Could break that satan’s spell.
And as the flames climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite,
I saw satan laughing with delight
The day the music died
And this one reminds me of the Bush administration:
We’ll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song
I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again
…still, they describe my thoughts toward these events better than anything written since the events …and they are about 30-40 years old!
For the younger readers, that is:
“American Pie” by Don McLean
“Hope We Don’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who

Promised Land is actually a Chuck Berry song recorded in the mid-sixties… wikipedia calls it a “novelty narrative” which was very typical of many of his songs. He never actually took the journey described in the song, Chuck is from St Louis, not Norfolk.
