Lighthouse Roasters of Seattle

My ongoing mission to try every decent coffee roaster and cafe in Seattle continues. In most cities this can be done in a few hours. In Seattle seeking out new and outstanding coffee is a never ending journey. Today I went to Lighthouse Roasters and received an outstanding macchiato.

Three Beverage Weekend in Seattle

Saturday was the Tea Meetup at Hiroki. It was mostly a desert place, but had a few tea offerings.

After leaving the Tea Meetup, it was off to meet the Eastside Pub Crawlers. We went to Red Hook. We all had low expectations for the beers. I found none of the sampler [...]

Coffee Roasting at 43 Degrees

Last month I wrote Cold Weather Coffee Roasting for INeedCoffee. As soon as that article was released everything changed. My Behmor 1600 roaster died and no tricks have brought it back to life. And all my heat trapping tricks have stopped working for the I-Roast 2. I think there is a [...]

Clover Coffee Conclusion?

Today I had one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had. It was the Kenyan Mwiria roasted by 49th Parallel and served in a Clover Coffee brewer at Trabant Coffee. Earlier this week Starbucks announced they bought the company that makes the Clover and I asked an important question.
Will independent coffee [...]

E-4 and Holding

During my six years in the Army National Guard I raced up the ranks from Private (E-1) to Specialist (E-4). Once I achieved the rank of Specialist, which is the pay rank of E-4, I went into chill mode. The rank just above Specialist is Sergeant (see chart). My unit was full [...]

Starbucks to Bring Clover to the Masses

Today Starbucks (*$) announced they have acquired the The Coffee Equipment Company which is the maker of the Clover coffee brewing system. This is a huge step forward in coffee. Being from Seattle and having attended both the SCAA and CoffeeFest shows in the last year, I am already familiar with the Clover machine. It [...]

March 2008 INeedCoffee

This month’s INeedCoffee was one my favorite editions. Alex’s story on hotel coffee makers being used for making crystal meth was outstanding. And the photos in snake article were amazing.

Coffee Tour At Seattle’s Caffe Vita

The Seattle Coffee Meetup got a tour of Caffe Vita last night. They roast 2,000 to 4,000 pounds of coffee daily. Many coffee shops and restaurants use their coffee in the Seattle area. Unlike Victrola, they pre-blend their espresso prior to roasting.

Urban Hike Seattle

Today was Presidents Day, which meant that I was off work and the stock market was closed. The weather forecast for Seattle was 57 degrees and sunny. Perfect conditions for an urban hike. I’ve urban hiked Manhattan, San Francisco, Auckland, and Buenos Aires. I decided to urban hike Seattle armed with my camera and [...]
