Web Goals and Predictions

While moving my blog posts over from Blogger to WordPress, I came face to face with a few old posts where I declared grand plans for my web sites. What became immediately obvious was how far off my predictions were. Everything was off. Although I exceeded my goals with DeepFitness, I [...]

Google Giveth, Google Taketh Away

Just a few days ago I was doing cartwheels over how much traffic had increased to my web sites as a result of adding sitemaps.
From The Importance of Search Engine Sitemaps:
Google referrals - DeepFitness
6/14/07: 71
6/21/07: 152
6/28/07: 755
Google referrals - INeedCoffee

DeepFitness 2007 Released

For the last two months I’ve been coding the new version of my fitness site DeepFitness. For the user it looks very similar. However, the entire site was rewritten. Version 1 was modeled after the content based INeedCoffee and the directory based ASPIN. Because fitness/nutrition is such a wider topic than coffee, the site was a lot of work to maintain and our [...]

Tales From the Glitter Gym - Old Man Edition

Last Saturday an older man thanked me for racking my weights. I said no problem and mentioned most people in this gym seemed considerate. Then he said something odd. He said:
For someone that lifts as much weight as you, I’d think you’d be more built.
By my count that could be taken three different ways.

He recognizes [...]

DeepFitness 2.0

A few years ago Matt Pitcher and I created a fitness site called DeepFitness.com. The site hosted fitness and health articles and links. It never really developed the audience we had hoped for and it took too much time to maintain.
This year we struck out with a new vision. Instead of hunting for content, we’d [...]
