This was my third year attending the Fremont Solstice Parade. Instead of watching the parade, I got there early and went straight to the staging area. From there I took most of my photos. I have a video of the naked bikers, but I am not sure where to upload it. Even though it is barely R-rated, I’m not sure it is YouTube safe. Ideas? Link to full gallery below.

I arrived in Seattle in 2007, so I don’t know much about the history of coffee shops and roasters that went under before then. On my very first visit to the Bainbridge Island coffee shop next to the Seattle Center, the barista got a phone call just when I was about to order. That call was from management saying that they would be closing the shop at the end of business that day with no plans to reopen. I felt like the Espresso Grim Reaper that day.
As good as my one espresso was at Bainbridge, my favorite coffee place in Seattle that no longer exists was Stickman Coffee. Stickman was this hidden gem in the heart of Fremont. It was in the alley just beyond the statue of Lenin. Stickman had two espresso blends roasted by Borogove Coffee. They blends were darker, which I usually don’t like. However, they were outstanding and they were unique. Stickman also had an open air court yard, which the Coffee Club of Seattle used once for a home coffee roasted demonstration. Stickman was owned and operated by award winning barista Dismas Smith.
Stickman Coffee is the Seattle coffee place that I miss the most. How about you? What is your pick for the best Seattle coffee place that is no longer around?

Another year, another Solstice parade in the Fremont district of Seattle. There seemed to be quite few of the naked bikers in the 2009 Fremont Solstice Parade. The parade kicked off at Noon. I’d like to issue the same warning as I did last year: Don’t view these photos on a full stomach.

The 2009 Fremont Outdoor Movie schedule is now out. If you haven’t been to one of the Fremont Outdoor movies, they are a good time. The outdoor movies are held across the street from Theo’s Chocolate at 3400 Phinney Avenue North. This is also the same corner as Brouwers. It might be the happiest intersection in Seattle.
Movies start around sunset, but you need to get there early for a good seat. Bring a chair and something to eat. With the exception of Legally Blonde, it appears to be an excellent line-up. Although I might see more, I’ve bolded the movies I am most likely to attend.

Twisted Flicks are kind of like Mystery Science 3000. The soundtrack is done by a Seattle improv comedy group. I’ve seen a few and they are pretty good.
Vienna Mae Coffee at the foot of the Fremont Bridge got smashed last Saturday. Here are a few photos I took Sunday morning.
Last night the Fremont Outdoor Movie season kicked off with the movie Superbad. It was a great time and the weather was perfect. I had some photos of the event but they were accidentally erased after my Skookum post. The Saturday movies continue though mid-September. I will definitely be back.
Today was the big party and parade in the Fremont district of Seattle. What is to say about Fremont and the parade? I’ll let the photos do the talking.

Prior to the parade a bunch of people bike nude in front of the parade route. The people aren’t models. They are very comfortable in their own skin. This gallery is not safe for work. Don’t view on a full stomach.
