Channel Islands - Santa Cruz

Yesterday we visited the Channel Islands National Park. This National Park just outside of Ventura, California does not have an entrance fee like most parks. However, you will need to hire an outfitter to take you to the island which is 20 miles off the coast. We went to the island of Santa Cruz with [...]

To Infinity and Beyond - Kwaay Summit

My new camera has an infinity setting which is indicated by a mountain icon. Eager to test out this feature, I took off to Mission Trails and headed up Kwaay Summit. The first picture below was taken with my old camera (5 megapixel Canon Elph) on the Auto setting. The second photo [...]

The Unfinished Hike - Black Mountain

Last November I got half way up Black Mountain and bailed for lunch. Today I finished that steep hike. Afoot and Afield listed this hike as a 2 hour hike, but I was able to complete it in 70 minutes. New photos were added to the existing gallery.

Return to Hiking

My back recovered enough to hike for 90 minutes in Mission Trails. I choose to hike Kwaay Paay Summit. Next week I plan to slowly return to lifting weights. The dead-lift is dead to me.

Batiquitos Lagoon and Camera Update

Today my back was well enough to tackle the very flat nature trail of Batiquitos Lagoon of South Carlsbad. The last time I did this trail was in September 2000.
It also gave me an opportunity to try out the Canon Rebel XTi camera. I’m not sure the pictures are that much better than my point [...]

Woodson Mountain and the Rock Climber

Back to Poway for my 2nd hike in 3 days. This time I did the East Approach to Mount Woodson, which I last hiked in November. Near the top I met a rock climber. We chatted for a good 20-30 minutes. He told me a lot about rock climbing and bouldering. I felt like [...]
