Summer of INeedCoffee

Yesterday was the 2-year anniversary of my Summer of George. I’ve been asked a few times recently if I will be starting a sequel to Summer of George. Not at this time. When I quit my job back in May 2006, I was burned out. I needed a break. I [...]

My Next Move?

On January 2nd an email was sent out to the employees of our company.  It was one of those this is going to be a great year emails that many companies send out.   I read the details of the email closely.  The goals and time lines were beyond ambitious.  They were ludicrous.
It was on that [...]

My Food Stamp Story

The Drudge Report just linked to a story in my old hometown newspaper stating that 1 in 10 Ohioans now receive food stamps. This reminded me of my one and only food stamp story.
While in college I was a cashier at a grocery store in a very nice suburb. Almost none of [...]

Wikipedia Entries For People I Delivered Pizza To

In an earlier post I mentioned my career of the early 1990s. I delivered for Pizza Hut. It was the best job I ever had that didn’t require a resume. And better than most of the jobs I’ve had since that did require one.
My first tour of duty was delivering pizzas in Columbus. My delivery [...]

New Job, Well Kinda

Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.
This also means I’ll be flying [...]

2500 Accident Free Hours

During the move, I stumbled upon an award I earned for driving 2,500 accident free hours for Pizza Hut. Before I resigned in 1995, I think I had exceeded 3,000 AFH.

Should I add this to my resume?
Mr. Smith, I see you graduated from Ohio State and have 10+ years of industry experience. What [...]

Employment Fitness

Last May I bragged about how unemployment was leaning me out. Throughout the summer I got more and more fit. By December I was closing in on a single-digit body-fat percentage. Should have taken my glamor photos at that time.
Then I did something stupid.
I got a job and my activity level dropped. The job was [...]

The Meaning of Work

Here are my thoughts on the ingredients for a good job.

Professional Growth - Building a TRANSFERABLE skill set is the most important thing a job can offer. If you aren’t growing, someone in another company somewhere is and they’ll beat you out of some future job offer. Transferable means that you aren’t growing into their [...]

Does My Last Employer Miss Me?

Since I left my last job on May 5th 2006, I haven’t heard from anyone in the company. However, I have noticed that the stock tanked shortly after I quit. The red dot on the chart below is the day I left.

Too bad I didn’t think to short the stock.
